Welcome To The Building Department
The Building Department is responsible for the administration of Building and related code requirements and Ordinances of the Village. Duties include the issuance of permits, plan reviews, performing inspections and providing technical information and assistance to the public regarding building Code requirements.
Building Permits are required for, but not limited to, the following work:

Septic System/Well permits are issued by the McHenry County Department of Health. Copies of septic system plans for a property are available from them.
A Building Permit Application is required to be filled out in order to obtain a building permit.
Permit applications are available at the Village Hall or online (see link below). Information is provided to assist you in filling out the permit application and the necessary submittal requirements. Also, any plans, information, licenses and bonds will need to accompany the Building Permit Application. A copy of the Contractor's Building proposal should be included as this will help determine the work the contractor will be performing. Building permits are required to be obtained before starting work. A fee is paid upon receiving the permit.
A stormwater management permit may also be required. Permits are obtained from the McHenry County Department of Planning and Development.
General Contractors, as well as contractors for single or small scale projects must have a $10,000 bond posted with the Village. A Roofing Contractor must also provide a current copy of their State of Illinois Roofers and Registration number. A Plumber must provide a copy of their Contractor's Registration, current Plumbers license and Letters of Intent for plumbing work to be performed.
For inspections, please contact the Building Department Office. Information needed will be your name, address of construction, permit number, type of inspection, and a return telephone number. A notice of 24 hours is needed to schedule an inspection.
The office hours of the Building Department are Tuesday and Friday 12:00PM - 1:30PM. If additional time is needed please contact the Building Department office to schedule an alternate time.
Contact J.U.L.I.E (Joint Utility Locating Information for Excavators) at 1-800-892-0123, 811, or www.illinois1call.com on your property prior to digging. This includes landscaping work. The service is free of charge.
